Anna Bursaux grew up in Paris and has spent the past 20 years in Boston. She loves equally being in Alexander Macqueen and Old Navy. Anna commissioned me to make a dress for her fundraiser at the Boston Center for the Arts. The theme for the party was “delight.” I interviewed her about the aspects of her life that caused her to feel the most delight—one of which is her dog Yoshi’s wonderful smile--and used this as the conceptual driver of the dress’s sculptural element. To recall her fashion dichotomy, I wanted to create a sculptural dress for her that was also comfortable. In the fabrication of this project, I developed a novel way to create a secure yet flexible way to attach the laser cut “tongue” to her body.
