MATERIALS + METHODS

Voxel8 3D printer, Polyurethane, elastic strap, pressure sensors

Ilya Vidrin and Partnering Lab is using wearable tech to share the experience of partner dancing with audience members during performances.

When I joined this project, Partnering Lab was using a pressure sensor attached to a bike glove to capture the subtle hand pressure that helps partners to communicate. I reimagined the glove using technology from Voxel8, a Somerville-based 3D printing company. Voxel8 has been focused on combining 3D printed polyurethane and knit textiles to create varying stiffness for knit shoe uppers. I proposed an alternative: pressure sensors sandwiched between two layers of polyurethane which would become a textile by itself.
