Design Principles II

Sophomore industrial design students in Design Principles II are given three studio briefs, two introductory and one final project.

For the second assignment, students worked with an educator from the RISD museum to develop insights from works of art which fueled the form of a household object. Examples of works in the collection chosen by students were Near the Virgin Islands (Près des Îles Vierges), 1959., Dale Chihuly, Gilded Frost and Jet Chandelier, 2008. and Elsa Gramcko, Arriba No. 27, 1959.

Students then chose a household object and rethought its form based on the formal insights from the artwork.
